Why Study Criminology?
Studying Criminology immerses students in the real world of crime, offering a true-crime style exploration of why people offend and why some crimes remain hidden or overlooked. It encourages learners to think critically by challenging media narratives, questioning stereotypes and analysing real cases alongside campaigns for change. Through evaluating evidence, theories and decisions within the criminal justice system, students build strong analytical skills that are valuable across all social science and humanities pathways. Criminology also supports progression into a wide range of courses and careers, including criminology, law, policing, forensics, psychology, social work and other related fields.
Year 12 -13: (A Level)
Learning is brought to life through case studies, contemporary examples, documentaries, news stories and scenario-based tasks, ensuring lessons remain engaging and applied to the real world. Students complete regular practice assessments and timed questions to build confidence with controlled assessment and exam-style tasks. Throughout the course, there are structured opportunities for discussion, debate and group work, allowing learners to test ideas, practise forming arguments and develop strong evaluative writing. Support is provided for all students through scaffolded booklets, model answers and clear feedback cycles, with additional help available for those who need extra time or processing support.
