The meaning behind our school badge

Our school is named after The Immaculate Conception, a title that refers to a very important part of our Catholic faith, but one that is often misunderstood.

Many people think the “Immaculate Conception” refers to Jesus being conceived in Mary’s womb. However, it actually refers to Mary’s own conception in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne.

From the very beginning of her life, Mary was special. The Church teaches that God was with her in a unique way from the moment she was conceived. She was “full of grace,” protected from sin so that she could freely and faithfully carry out her role as the mother of Jesus.

We call this special moment “immaculate,” which comes from the Latin words sine macula, meaning “without stain”. This reminds us that Mary was free from original sin, the “stain” that is part of the human condition from the very first moment of her life.

The Immaculate Conception is at the heart of our school identity. It’s a reminder of God’s grace, Mary’s faithfulness, and the call we each have to live lives of love, goodness, and purpose.
