Sixth Form Student Zahara Speaks at UK Youth Parliament

Last week, our very own sixth‐form student, Zahara, made an inspiring appearance on the national stage when she addressed around 300 people at the UK Youth Parliament.

Zahara was invited to speak as part of the UK Youth Parliament’s event that brings together young people from across the country to raise important issues and shape decisions. With confidence and clarity beyond her years, she delivered a passionate speech that resonated with the audience.

In her address, Zahara spoke about mental health and about the long waiting times to access professional support and the harmful effects this is having on young people.

Members of the audience praised her for both the strength of her ideas and her ability to engage listeners of differing ages and backgrounds. One attendee commented that her talk “was both personal and powerful, and reminded us of the difference one voice can make.”

Back at school, Zahara’s teachers and classmates expressed pride in her achievement. “It’s a fantastic example of our students making their voices heard,” said Aimee Curtis, Head of Sixth Form. “Zahara has shown real leadership and shown how young people can influence national discussions.”

Zahara herself said she felt honoured to represent her peers and to be part of a national forum. “Standing up in front of 300 people was nerve-wracking,” she admitted, “but once I began speaking it felt right to share what matters to me and to so many of us. I hope the ideas I put forward will spark further conversation and action.”

We congratulate Zahara on this outstanding achievement and look forward to seeing how she continues to engage with the issues she is passionate about. Her example reminds us all that when young people speak up, they can help shape the future.
