Beaulieu Students Crowned London Designer of the Year at Junk Kouture World Finals
Beaulieu is celebrating an extraordinary international success after students Jessica, Daisy and Scarlett – known collectively as Team Carbon Footprint – were crowned London Designer of the Year at the Junk Kouture World Finals in Dublin.
Competing on the global stage and representing London, the talented trio impressed judges and audiences alike with their powerful and thought-provoking creation, Carbon Footprints.
A Powerful Statement on Fast Fashion
The award-winning design is a striking response to fast fashion footwear and global overconsumption. Created entirely from deconstructed trainers, football boots, laces and rope, Carbon Footprints transforms discarded materials into a bold couture garment.
The piece exposes the hidden environmental cost stitched into every sole. By reimagining unwanted shoes into a visually arresting design, the team highlighted the lasting impact of mass production and challenged viewers to rethink what they buy – and what they throw away.
Judges praised the originality of the concept, the technical skill involved in its construction, and the compelling environmental message woven throughout the piece.
Creativity with Purpose
Winning the London Designer of the Year at such a prestigious international competition is a remarkable achievement. The accolade recognises not only the students’ creativity and craftsmanship but also their commitment to raising awareness about sustainability and responsible consumption.
Headteacher Matthew Burke said:
“We are immensely proud of Jessica, Daisy and Scarlett. Their creativity, teamwork and dedication have been truly inspiring. This award is a testament to their talent and to the powerful message they have delivered about sustainability and the future of fashion.”
The entire Beaulieu Convent School community is thrilled to celebrate this outstanding accomplishment. Congratulations to Team Carbon Footprint for representing the school with such passion, innovation and purpose on the world stage!
