Alison
Smithurst

Alison Smithhurst made history as a member of the "Intrepid 232" crew, setting a world record as the oldest female fours team to row across any ocean. At 59 years old, Alison and her team Julie Brady (60), Rosemary Satchwell (55), and Helene Monpetit (56) completed the 3,000-mile Atlantic crossing in 58 days, 12 hours, and 30 minutes as part of the 2023 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

The team began their journey on December 13, 2023, from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and reached Antigua on February 9, 2024, following a rigorous two-hour rowing, two-hour rest schedule in a self-sufficient ocean rowing boat. Upon arrival, the team was celebrated in Antigua and honored with bronze Bailiff’s Medals in Jersey for their remarkable achievement.

Alison’s record-breaking accomplishment is a testament to her resilience and determination, qualities that were nurtured during her time at Beaulieu School.
