Celebrating a strong inspection, which recognises our rapid progress and academic ambition

We are celebrating a highly positive outcome following our recent review under the Jersey Schools Review Framework (JSRF), with the report recognising rapid improvement across the School, strong academic performance, and a clear strategic direction for the future.

The Jersey Schools Review Framework is Jersey’s independent process for evaluating and supporting school improvement. It reviews key areas including teaching and learning, pupil achievement, wellbeing, and leadership. At Beaulieu, the process is used as an opportunity to reflect on practice and continue strengthening outcomes for all students.

Inspectors highlighted the impact of our new leadership team, describing it as “spot on”. Parents also reflected this view, commenting that there is “a clear sense that the School is on an upward journey… more ambitious and better organised.” The report credits this leadership with strengthening our vision and driving improvement across all areas of school life.

The review highlights strong academic performance across all key stages, from younger students through to sixth form. Beaulieu now ranks in the top 10% nationally for student progress, with several subjects achieving results in the top 1% according to ALPS national benchmarking data.

Headteacher Matthew Burke said: “We are determined that Beaulieu is recognised not only for its exceptional pastoral care, but also for the strength of its academic provision. The progress we are seeing reflects the ambition of our loyal staff and the commitment of our children and students.”

Reviewers identified a strong focus on teaching and learning, with early reading highlighted as a particular strength. At sixth form level, students continue to progress to a wide range of universities and career pathways, supported by strong teaching and high-quality guidance.

The report also praised Beaulieu’s pastoral provision, describing it as “first-rate” with a “deep-rooted culture of care”. Students were recognised as “thoughtful, kind and courteous”, with many expressing a strong sense of belonging and referring to the “Beaulieu family as a real thing.”

Outside the classroom, our wider provision was also commended, with students described as being “saturated, in a good way” with opportunities across sport, the arts, leadership, and academic enrichment.

Despite a period of significant change, the review rightly recognised that we remain firmly rooted in our founding principle of toute de charité (“all about love”). Reviewers highlighted how this ethos, combined with strong leadership and clear moral purpose, has helped create a renewed sense of optimism across the School community.

It was also confirmed that we met all eight Jersey Standards for Independent Schools, including safeguarding, welfare, and educational quality.

Looking ahead, Headteacher Matthew Burke said: “We are ambitious for every child and student in our care. While the report acknowledges the progress we have already made, it also highlights where we go next. Our continued aim is to further strengthen a School where academic excellence and pastoral support go hand in hand, allowing every young person to truly flourish.”
